Why have a page for "poker"?  Well, mainly because I find myself teaching a professional player!  So, why not make as many links as possible to the skills for driving, just as with any other work or pursuit?

Have a gameplan.  Recognise your mood and ability today, that others' will differ, and risk only what you can afford to lose (i.e. perhaps a little time, not your health or the value of your car).  Your "opponent" is everyone else, so watch their moves and spot their clues, especially while you or they are waiting.  That way you will know when and how to seize your opportunity and act clearly and commandingly.

"Giving the game away" is perhaps where similarities end.  Because, unlike competitive pastimes, driving is more collective and even collaborative.  So keep in mind that we are ALL trying to reach our desired destinations ... without getting "wiped out".  :)
