Realisations ... from being a teacher
As well as what
you
teach
me
, there are a few things I've recognised since changing career to be self-employed in the driving tuition industry:
Office "pink day", previous job (2006)
Avoid complicated words, and especially tenses
Enjoyable company (the client's and yours) is key
Flexibility is paramount
People differ, and are unpredictable ... and examiners vary more than ideal
It takes a lot to damage a rear tyre … but little to kill a front one
Driving tests should not be
language tests
Rarely describe variations that didn’t actually take place
Note your own critical oversights
Appraise "where you're at" after 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, 15, 20 years
A bag on the front passenger seat can end up operating the dual brake!
Be generous with time and resources: model how you want clients to carry on
Don’t compare yourself to a DVSA ideal: as with a test report, acknowledge your “faults” but applaud the unmentioned positives
And what's got better?
