"Defensive" driving
Driving "defensively" doesn't mean being timid or simply reacting to other road users. It means anticipating what they're likely to do, then getting ready to deal with that in a way that doesn't pass on a bad effect to further people.
An example might be expecting a learner car to leave it too late to brake before a corner (so you hold further back, warning those behind you with a brake signal). Another is seeing a pedestrian wearing earphones (so you might cover your footbrake, because they won't hear you approach and may be thinking about what they're listening to, rather than your approach). |
