"I will try to take the driving test and my Hong Kong instructor will come with me. She also agrees that I am ready. Thank you for your encouragement and for giving me a lot of confidence. You make me believe that I can do it. ... Thank you again for your always encouragement and providing me with a lot of useful information, much of which I had never heard of before. It has been really helpful. You are very very very good teacher"

Wonderful pair of passes soon after each other, Paul first time and with only ONE FAULT. In a kind birthday card they said "You know we enjoy every moment of chatting with you, from which we learn a lot ... Please allow us to say thank you very much for your valuable, encouraging and patient driving instruction. Such that we can now fight with each other to sit on the driving seat."

"Many thanks, Tim. May I ask you for little favour? When you will see this lady from the test centre please say she was really good and very kind to me. I didn’t tell it to her because was really upset. And many thanks for your kind support."

Hearty Xmas congratulations to Margaret for her splendid business-like, progressive drive around Redditch last week ! I'd be surprised if she collected more than 3 DFs ... and would disagree with those if she was simply driving economically (i.e. "eco-safe", which I'm sure will soon be part of marking on test).

Well, where do I start? For me, Tim has been much more than a driving instructor. I became one of Tim’s students in the spring of 2021 where I was learning in his old manual car. Soon after, he said he’d be switching to an automatic. So I made the decision to go with someone else: this wasn’t a reflection on Tim, it was purely down to my own self doubts. It didn’t take me long to realise I'd made a mistake. As someone with anxiety and low self-esteem, Tim was the perfect teacher for me. Incredibly caring, supportive and, above all, patient, Tim will teach you how to drive while providing laughs and life-lessons along the way. I owe an enormous amount to Tim, who I'm now proud to call my friend. Thank you also for your Shakespearian enlightenment [I wrote Ash a poem]. Learn with Tim, he’s great!

Go, Thryn! Midnight pit-stop photo near Bristol, while remote-navigating my daughter back home in her first car: an electric one for under 7 grand! My first student to skip the oily/steamy Industrial Age and go strait into electric. (Maybe the climate can be cooled after all).

Brilliant job, Anna, for a neat assessed drive round Dudley. May your licence open up even more opportunities in film, television, and your personal world! (And if anyone's wondering, the stills come from Episode 1 of Gerry & Sylvia Anderson's groundbreaking 1965 show, "Thunderbirds").

"I had 3 other driving instructors before coming across Tim on his YouTube channel, having been learning to drive for 2 years and having failed countless tests. I started to wonder why I simply couldn’t grasp driving but once I started lessons with Tim my confidence grew in leaps and bounds. Tim actually took the time to explain things to me. He taught me how to drive in a way that other instructors failed to do, paying attention to the small details that aren’t as obvious to a new driver.

With Tim, I finally felt I had some semblance of control of the car and I was so relieved to pass my practical driving test with only 2 minor faults a week before my theory test was due to expire. Bear in mind that I had failed almost 10 tests before, all with a double-digit number of minor faults and some major too.
It has now been over 3 years since I passed my driving test and I still feel immensely grateful to Tim for his help. As someone who felt anxious on the road, Tim’s positive, motivational style of teaching did wonders for my confidence. I cannot begin to recommend him enough."

“Hey Tim , just wanted to say another thanks for everything , I know we didn’t spend too many hours together , however every lesson I still learnt something new to add to my driving and I also end up with the results so I just wanted share a special thanks for the amazing instructions, in such a short time … hope to see you on the road soon !”

"Gooowon, my son !" So there we have Son#2 passing his practical test yesterday.
I did ask him for a quotation of what it was like learning with his father but he couldn't think of anything to say. He made his first journey without L-plates, coming home from Coventry ... where I'd met him from yet another city to take the test. He did say he liked the roads around Bedworth (if that counts). "Having been taught by two other instructors prior to Tim, I know both what's available and what's lacking from other instructors, Tim was great at maintaining a calm atmosphere while making sure I learnt as much as I could during the lesson and provides excellent explanations and instructions and he undoubtedly is a key reason that I passed my exam. Honestly all you could want from an instructor".
Daniel (business studies student, Selly Oak; Apr-19) |
"Thanks so, so much for your (video) answer. Really struck by your professionalism and dedication ... Wouldn't you know I'd found significant help from the far Britain (unbelievable). So it remains to really thank you again for your kindness (wish I had an instructor like you)! Have a nice day, Ciao! A great person deserves compliments."

My other examiners "broke me down"; it seemed they wanted to keep lessons going. Tim helped me to bring it all together: theory, intuition, practice, by building my confidence again. So when I approached this test, I could say "Either I will pass, or I will learn". And I passed ... with only 2 driver faults !

Tim's guidance and support proved utterly invaluable in helping me to achieve that step-up to reach a competent test standard. He was quick to advise me on how to correct any faults in my driving in a detailed and thoughtful manner. The advice was wholly implementable and I honestly couldn't see myself passing without it. With Tim's help, I was able to pass my driving test with just a few minor faults! Thanks, Tim.

Well done Nathan, who's not only passed his test at Wyndley test centre (southeast edge of Sutton Park), but taught me that the most useful thing in the event of a zombie apocalypse is a roll of duct tape. (Click the image alongside to read why). According to "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy", it's a towel. I contend that it's a small ball of BluTak.

Brilliant job, Ruby ! This young lady nailed her driving test at Cocks Moors Woods test centre last week. She writes "Thank you for being incredibly patient with me. I really enjoyed driving lessons with you and the topics we used to talk about. You were my confidence booster".

Thanks a lot Tim! Just watched [the summary video I made of his lesson] and I appreciate it, it was a great video. I haven't commented on your lecturing yet, and I must say you take a very different approach and go in depth which is unique from many instructors; I'm very pleased so far. Because it gives me an impression that you truly want me to pass asap.

"Tim really helped me by putting me at ease. I came in very anxious to do well. Tim's teaching is one of which is laid back and very logical so you can build safe habits. Having been through 5 different instructors (Tim being 5th) I can say from experience I adapted to Tim's teaching very well and knew that If I did pass, it would be Tim who'd have helped get me there."

"Learning with Tim has been an experience that no other instructor could offer. From new starting drivers to ones that need a little guidance, Tim is the man to help you succeed. His methods of teaching only make everything easier to understand, including his comical ways to help you remember what you have learnt. I would recommend TRC11 to anyone wishing to learn to drive."

"I wanted to thank you for helping me to get the pass. Although it was only for a few lessons it helped consolidate what I had already done and gave me much needed advice/confidence ahead of the test. I found the lessons both interesting and enjoyable ..."

"I just wanted to say Thank You for all the time you have taught me. The driving lessons are great. You are a great teacher; the best! I will be recommending you to other people. Also he has given me great help in how to cope with University and moving away from home. And thanks for all your support in making me pass the test; I will never forget about it."
Chris (business IT undergrad, Kings Heath; May-16) |
"Tim was a great instructor the time I spent with him. He explained things in a simple and straightforward way which made me realise how simple roundabouts were. He encouraged me and gave me the self-belief I needed to go on and pass my test. So thanks a lot Tim and I really recommend his lessons".
Ben (art student, Selly Park; Mar-16) |
"Tim is an excellent instructor. He has all the skills a learner driver needs to learn driving and pass the test. I didn't believe in me passing first time but he kept motivating and giving me confidence. I recommend him to anyone who wants to learn to drive and understand the mechanism behind the wheels."
Farid (civil engineer, Kings Norton; Dec-15) |
"Thank you very much Tim for being such a great instructor. I thought your patient and positive teaching style was very helpful, especially when I was first learning. Also, all the extra work you did outside of my lessons, including making additional videos and sending me links to relevant websites was much appreciated. Thanks again and hopefully I'll be driving the Triumph [Spitfire] soon!"
Tobi (A-level student, Harborne; Sep-15) |
"I really liked the teaching style of letting you make the mistakes and being able to correct yourself rather than an instructor constantly telling you to 'slow down' or do something differently before you've finished doing it yourself. Also, it was great to be so comprehensive, making sure to take enough time to get whatever you're doing exactly right before moving on, giving you the best chance possible of succeeding."
Ed (A-level student and cricket fan, Catshill; Aug-15) |
Vicky passed in Kings Heath this morning, with only 4 driving faults (max. is 15). She'd earlier said "Thank you very much for your such strong positive feedback about my driving performance ... Thank you for re-sending this video. It is such a fun to watch myself on driving. I think it works for all purpose to review the lesson and clarify where the mistake was."
Vicky (Hospitality & Tourism graduate, Weoley Castle, Mar-14) |
"Tim possesses the qualities that I think are needed to be an effective and efficient Driving Instructor. Not only does he know the content that he needs to cover, his method of delivery is tops. He allows the individual to work at their pace and even uses the person’s skills or hobbies to help them understand the concepts that are difficult to grasp. Tim is patient, polite and calm. He never lets you feel belittled, even though you make the silliest mistakes and he constantly acknowledges your efforts when you've used the correct procedures. I would recommend Tim Clayton to anyone who would like to learn to drive.
