Dual carriageways
|
This type of road has a separate carriageway for traffic going in each direction. So there's a barrier, maybe just a kerb, between you and oncomers. Otherwise, it's a single.
"Dual carriageway" doesn't tell you how many lanes go each way, nor its speed limit. In towns, that's typically 40mph; higher because it's safer. Out of town, it's usually 60 or 70. As with any road, look for (1) frequent buildings and (2) regular street lighting, and (3) any speed signs, to know. |
Dual-carriageways often have slip-roads to help traffic to join and leave, and are safer for overtaking.
