“You’ll never get elected if no-one knows you’re standing”.  And so with driving: use your position and body language to manifest your intentions.

However, scope out the foreground first: someone else may have had a similar (or conflicting) idea.  Be prepared to change track without abandoning core principles of smoothness and courtesy ... just like when campaigning or in government !  Plan well ahead so you can pick your moments to act.

Others may jostle for position, but your journey isn’t some leadership race.  The key thing is that you (and those travelling with you, who believe in your skill and trust your judgment for “the road ahead”) attain your aim.

There may be quarrels and in-fighting on the way, heckling and derision from peers Left and Right.  But your goal as the party’s driving force is solidarity toward the collective goal of journeying together, resolute and safe.
