If you car was a railway engine, none of its wheels could change direction: they could only rotate. So, your two rear corners would follow exactly where the front ones had gone. They would "use the same space": no more and no less.
Because you want your real car to change direction in less distance, some of its wheels change their sideways angle (as well as going round and round). This very short video shows how this means the rear corners move sideways (and by how much) when you turn the wheels, by steering, to make the front point a different way. |
