Companion

You don't have to drive alone on your practical test. Anyone over 16 can (usually) join you. They can't take part, and should sit behind you, keeping still and quiet. They can take notes but not record audio/video.

That person, especially if they are your instructor, can :​

1. Give moral support (as a "friendly presence")
2. Discuss the test result (the examiner has only 1-2 min to summarise)
3. Help open the bonnet (for a possible safety question at the start)
4. Change a failed light/tyre during the test
5. ​Bring the car back (if you, the examiner, or the car become unfit)
6. See you perform under pressure (to suggest ways to improve)
