Hazards
A hazard is anything to make you change speed or direction. (Without hazards, we could just go fast in a straight line!) It can be STATIC (e.g. junction; zebra crossing; large puddle), or DEVELOPING (swerving van; wobbly cyclist; opening door). It increases your risk.

Once identified (and before assessing that risk), use the "hazard routine".
To spot one early, use "hungry eyes". Keep eyes roving in a "flat cone of vision" in front. That cone should get wider, but less tall, the slower you go. Hazards make driving harder but there's often a "silver lining". |
