Hazards

A hazard is anything to make you change speed or direction.  It can be STATIC (e.g. junction; zebra crossing; large puddle), or DEVELOPING (swerving van; wobbly cyclist; opening door).  Without hazards, we could just go fast in a straight line!
Hazards increase your risk.  Once you've identified one (and before assessing that risk), apply the "hazard routine".

To spot any hazards early, use "hungry eyes".  Keep your eyes searching in a "flat cone of vision" to the road in front.

If you go slower, that cone should get wider (to beyond the sides of the road) because people will have more time to reach you before you go past.

Hazards make driving harder but there's often a "silver lining".
