Your routes
Following directions from someone else is included on the practical test. But navigating yourself, while keeping a high standard on the move, is much more difficult. So practice it. Make some small but "real" journeys. Try alternatives. There're different ways to get to the same place, ways to see the same thing. Here are some tips:
1. always prioritise safety over efficiency (= staying on your chosen route)
2. choose thoughtfully the time you'll be travelling 3. take a printed back-up to satnav and your phone 4. turn LEFT onto main roads, turn RIGHT off them ("tacking") 5. think ahead for your passengers' comfort (bumps, bridges, tunnels, speed) 6. plan to by-pass traffic-lights, and possibly big roundabouts 7. a GPS aid can identify delays, busy hotspots, and suggest options 8. know your local tricky features, so you might avoid them 9. ... because "it's better to arrive late than never" |
