“Error-training”

This concept means "letting a driver make a mistake they can learn from".

Like all animals, humans can learn from what didn't work out the way they wanted. This was not how I was taught to instruct or coach. But it does have a basis in psychology.

Cars these days do a lot of the work for you but, even so (or perhaps because we now expect the car to help), I will always be ready to take control if something goes wrong. We can then talk it over, and probably practise it again.

Consider how you learned to perform tasks well before you started learning to drive.  When a child, how did you learn to cross a road?  How did you decide what food and drink you liked?  How did you learn who you wanted to live with, or what kind of work you actually enjoyed?  Yes ... you tried the options.
