Emerging

Use the same "hazard routine" as for turning off a major road.

After Mirrors, Signal, and Positioning (to "left of centre", if turning right), lose Speed and—when 3-4 car lengths from the junction—Look right and left to decide if your view is "closed" or "open" (= you can see at least 3-4 car lengths of clear road, BOTH ways).

If "closed" and you're in a manual car, change to gear 1 when still 1-2 lengths away. Keep the clutch down in case you do need to stop. When you see it's safe, bring it up, keep moving. (Look for a wedge).
If "open", select gear 2 and keep going if it's safe.  Glance right first (you'll need TIME to move out), and left (you'll need SPACE to move into) before you go.  Check no-one’s overtaking before you speed up.  See my photopage to illustrate.
