Emerging

To emerge from a “minor road” (= side road), use the same "hazard routine" as to turn off a major road (= the road which has priority) …

After Mirrors, Signal, and Positioning (to "left of centre", if you will turn right), lose Speed, and—when you are 3-4 car lengths from the junction—Look right and left to decide if your view is "closed" or "open" (= you can see at least 4-6 car lengths of clear road, BOTH ways).

If "closed" and you're in a manual car, change to gear 1 when still 1-2 lengths away. Keep the clutch down in case you do need to stop. When you see it's safe, bring it up, keep moving. (In manual or auto, look for a wedge to create space for you to move out into).
If "open" and in a manual car, select gear 2 and keep going if it's safe. (You’ll be able to maintain more speed than at closed junctions provided you’ve looked assessed other traffic early enough).

Whether open or closed, glance right first (you'll need TIME to move out), and left (you'll need SPACE to move into) before you go.

Check no-one’s overtaking before you speed up. See my photopage to illustrate.
