Spy ... or "spotter"
To drive (or go anywhere, by any means) requires an aim, an endpoint, a purpose. Usually, that's your destination: a physical site. So use YOUR direct sight first. Reflections and shadows are next best.

Seek information, to help you navigate but also to notice features (or landmarks) along the way. Some will increase your risk while travelling: bends, hills, weather, other people. So, go as slowly as gives you time to see all of that. Otherwise you cannot plan how to keep going, safely.
Any hunting like this involves identification: how to know what you're seeing. Signs and markings use few colours and shapes, which helps. Identifying a side-road is harder. |
