We have so many mantras, us instructors. "Tyres & Tarmac", "What comes before a signal?", etc, etc. Most of mine are here. But this is a new one; well, new-ish.

Whenever you're driving, get your eyes actively hunting for information on what's coming up or changing; your brain sifting all that, prioritizing it; and only then let it send a message to your hands (to adjust direction) or feet (to adjust speed).

Hardly the most appealing backdrop hue for a heritage attraction, would you say ?

I notice Devon County Council have opted for a cheery blue for their touristy seaside coves. (Not that you'd find that in the Highway Code).

Should there be a campaign to recolour panels for recreational sites with burgundy, olive green, or purple ?

Purple would be exotic, alluring, and smack of regal quality; something to celebrate.

Which is easier to create trading names for: estate agents or hairdressers ? We've all seen them: "Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow", "Curl Up and Dye", "Move Along The Bus(iness)". How about driving schools ?

How cool would it be to teach beneath the brand "Keep Calm & Drive On" ? Very topical. Especially with wartime anniversaries.

Or "Laps of Concentration" ? Or "Shut Up 'n' Drive" ? (I shaln't tell you what the predictive text suggested, but suffice it to say one shouldn't write posts in dim conditions without proof-reading glasses).

Or even "Cheeky But Rude" (suggested by pupil Abbie, when I was encouraging assertive creeping from the absurdly-difficult Lifford Lane T-junction) ?

All good fun, if on holiday and not wanting to share in the card-games now the rain has come.
