The above campaign was launched pre-Covid and a lot of behaviour has changed since. We became more connected "virtually", for one. 'Twas a good idea ("make the glove box the phone box") overtaken by events. And would you really want your screen jangling against those metal objects in the picture anyway?
More and more car manufacturers are adapting parking brake, gear-selector, and cup-holder controls, as well as other storage, to encourage phones to be "out and proud": in use for navigation, interfacing with the car concerning range, health, maintenance, updates, marketing, so of course we want to enjoy good signal reception (it's bad enough with the phone travelling in a metal box!) I'm afraid remote connection ("Everything Everywhere") is what most of us now expect, be it on foot, wheels, rails, or water ... maybe even in the air. Either the phone manufacturers have to limit us, or we discipline ourselves (individually or democratically).
