Pupils and electric cars (EVs)

I've written on advantages of EVs.  Now, some independent confirmation...

Last year, the number of UK tests in automatics had risen to 1-in-7 (nearer 1-in-4, a few Birmingham examiners have told me).  The test is the same as for a manual and still requires control of the vehicle at all times, with appropriate awareness of others.

The pass rate for autos still shows as slightly LOWER than for manuals, but that's almost certainly because historically people choose to learn auto because they have other difficulties with driving (judgment; control; confidence; disability; etc).

Large driving school BSM, owned by The AA, is offering EVs for instructors to lease in 2022.  This is based on research convincing them that students see the end of petrol and diesel cars by 2030-40, and therefore mastering clutch-control is a costly short-lived benefit.

Combined with an overall uplift of a third in drivers expecting their next car to be electric, and a government minister believing "shared mobility" is the way forward, the time is ripe for the Quiet Revolution.
